During this quarantine, we asked some of our students to find out what are their favorite aviation films and we ended up with a very long list of movies and documentaries. After sorting out, we’ve narrowed the list down and here is the result – 5 great movies about flying to binge.

  1. Top Gun

“I feel the need.. the need for speed.”

The film follows students at the U.S. Navy’s elite fighter pilot school as two cadets, Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Iceman (Val Kilmer), compete for the top spot in class.
We know, you also can’t wait for the Top Gun 2 to air on big screens in December 2020!

  1. Sully

Sully is a movie adaptation of the story behind the safe landing of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 on January 15, 2009, also known as “Miracle on the Hudson”. Miraculously everybody survived and Sully was hailed as a hero in the aviation industry.

But, did you know what happened behind this miracle flight? How the crew on board handle the situation? And what are the aftermath of Sully’s experience? The film will show everything that happened from the cockpit, until the ground.

  1. Amelia

A biological film about the life of Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She and her navigator, Fred Nooman, tragically disappeared on their way home after circling the world in 1937.

The movie has an empowering message through the portrayal of Earhart being an awesome woman and aviatrix – that woman has the right to take flight and “be free”.

  1. Airplane

“We have clearance, Clarence” “Roger, Roger. What’s our vector, Victor?”
Absurd comedy film about Ted Striker, who is an ex-fighter pilot who’s now afraid of flying needs to land a commercial jet after the pilots have fallen sick, and several passengers need to get off the airplane for various reasons.

If you really need a good laugh out loud movie, to make you feel good, you should definitely watch this!

  1. The Aviator

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Howard Hughes in this biographical film as a famed director and aviator. Hughes helped to push the boundaries of aviation by forming the Hughes Aircraft Company.

The film is a about Hughes’ amazing achievements and experience, and the personal struggles he faced throughout his life.
